This subject (Problem Solving – Investigation) is designed to introduce student teachers to problem solving that involves application of mathematical skills, logical reasoning and everyday problems. Real world (life) problems are not presented in a neat and orderly manner like a page of ‘sums’ so students understand the operations and procedures in a problem-solving situation. It is hoped that students will develop mathematical reasoning and confidence in their ability to use different approaches in solving unfamiliar everyday problems, and be competent at teaching the concepts in Primary Schools (Grade 3-6/8).
