Synopsis

This subject teaches the demographic change processes of fertility, mortality and migration with each of their measureable indicators and evaluates improvements of each process with the acceptable status, levels and quality of life by the human development approach. Its emphasis on human development is with attaining long-term well-being of the global population.

 

Learning Outcomes

Through successful completion of this subject students will be able to:

1.       Identify the population and human development nexus.

2.       Explain demographic change processes, indicators and rates of fertility, migration and mortality.

3.       Describe the human development approach and rationale and examine its indicators.

4.       Generate, compile, interpret and analyse demographic indicators and use to evaluate progress towards SDGs on sustainable development.

5.       Apply meaning of numbers of a country to the analysis and evaluation of sectoral or development policy.

6.       Evaluate the performance of country demographic indicators with country levels of human development and propose way forward.
